Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that strengthens communities and expands opportunities for learning. To ensure that philanthropy earns and maintains the trust and respect of the public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the organizations they choose to support, Lindsay Educational Foundation for Learning affirms that all donors have the following rights:

1. To be informed of the Foundation’s mission, how donated funds will be used, and the Foundation’s capacity to use contributions effectively and responsibly for their intended purposes.
2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the Foundation’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment and ethical stewardship. Donors may request access to the Foundation’s most recent financial statements.
3. To be assured that their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
4. To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition for their contributions, consistent with their preferences.
5. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and confidentiality, to the extent provided by law.
6. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing the Foundation will be professional, respectful, and transparent.
7. To be informed whether individuals soliciting donations are volunteers, employees of the Foundation, or hired representatives.
8. To have the opportunity to request that their name be removed from mailing lists that the Foundation may use or share.
9. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.
